A South London tennis club believed to be one of the oldest in the world will keep serving its community for the foreseeable future after hitting its "daunting" fundraising target. While there is still a bit of money to raise over the next few weeks Norbury Park Lawn Tennis Club (NPLTC) has effectively secured its future by hitting the milestone of £25,000 raised via a gofundme page on Sunday (March 16).

A South London tennis club that is threatened with closure is less than £3,000 away from funding its own bid to buy the site. Norbury Park Lawn Tennis Club's (NPLTC's) future has been in doubt since Croydon Council announced its intention to dispose of the site.

London lost 46 community spaces in just six years with one borough seeing 13 shut down in that time. MyLondon this week launched a new campaign titled 'Don't cut the heart out of London' aimed at saving community venues under threat. The city has already seen a string of closures of vital community venues and spaces in recent years and with council budgets under more pressure than ever, this is only likely to rise.
