City and state officials marked the 40th anniversary of Public Service Recognition Week Monday at the Albany Public Library. Since 1985, the first week in May has been designated as Public Service Recognition Week, to honor those who serve as federal, state, county and local government employees. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and state Civil Service Commissioner Tim Hogues kicked off the week at the Washington Avenue branch during a civil service workshop and job fair.

Official says they're working to end consumer frustration brought on by the transition of New York state's Medicaid home care program to a single payroll provider. In September 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced what she called a statewide partnership to transition and strengthen CDPAP, the Consumer Direct Personal Assistance Program. CDPAP enables people with disabilities to hire their own personal caregiver, which could be a family member or friend.

Healthcare workers from across the Capital Region gathered Saturday to voice concern over the Trump administration’s healthcare policies and proposed funding cuts. Nurses, medical researchers, and employees caring for the most vulnerable gathered at the Albany Labor Temple to attend a forum hosted by the New York State AFL-CIO and the Capital District Area Labor Federation, featuring Congressman Paul Tonko.

A new plan to safeguard the Albany County Town of Bethlehem's water supply has been approved. Following an autumn algae bloom that tainted drinking water and potential risks to its reservoir from biosolids, the town board on Wednesday unanimously approved a Source Water Protection Plan. Commissioner of Public Works Paul Penman says the plan, first drafted in 2021, focuses on land acquisition, nutrient loading, and education.

The new U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York used one of his first press conferences Monday to draw attention to efforts to protect children online. Monday’s press conference came after 20-year-old Devin Ravine of Riverside, California, was arrested Friday on charges of sexual exploitation of a child.
