    BUFFALO, N.Y. — One week from now the April 15 deadline looms for filing your income tax return. Individual circumstances aside, tax filers generally won't find much different this year in terms of deductions and credits. "There were a few things that are new, but as far as the meat and potatoes of what happens on the tax return, nothing really was done which impacted things as far as the calculation of tax," said Tim Eliason, a senior tax advisor with Getter Tax and Consulting Services.

    COLLINS, N.Y. — Despite last month's end to a wildcat strike by state corrections officers, under-staffing remains at crisis levels in New York State prisons. The Department of Corrections' latest plans to help solve it were criticized by a group of republican state lawmakers who gathered Friday outside Collins Correctional facility  When the strike staged over unsafe working conditions but in defiance of the state Taylor Law began, the state was already 2,000 corrections officers short.

    HAMBURG, N.Y. — A former Town of Hamburg official appeared in town court on Wednesday morning where he was arraigned on charges for allegedly breaking into a town highway garage and stealing tools. Nathaniel Rivera is charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree and Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree for allegedly breaking into a building at the town highway facility on Lakeview Road on the evening of Mar. 7, and making off with assorted tools.
