BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you plan to go bar hopping on Chippewa Street in Buffalo this summer, be prepared for a change. City officials unveiled a plan to close the section of Chippewa between Delaware Ave. and Franklin Street to vehicles between 10 pm and 4:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights starting this weekend through Labor Day. The aim is to keep this entertainment district lively and successful, but also make it safer.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's growing concern about progress at one of the biggest development projects in downtown Buffalo after an article in Buffalo Business First regrading Douglas Development's ongoing efforts to renovate the Statler tower. "I'm starting to get concerned", said Buffalo Common Council member Mitch Nowakowski, who a year ago backed a plan to try to help Douglas Jamal secure state funds to help complete the $160 million makeover of the landmark structure.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — As they seek a new contract, employees of several local nursing homes spent this Memorial Day weekend on the picket line. It was the continuation of a week long strike authorized by their union, which is set to end on Tuesday but could go longer. The workers are represented by Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which has recently settled contracts with several for profit nursing homes locally.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Veterans and volunteers joined forces on Thursday to help raise funds toward much-needed renovations of Bett-Toomey Marine Corps Detachment 216 in Lackawanna, and to improve its accessibility to elderly and disabled veterans. In just under four hours veterans, along with volunteers from the Erie County Clerk's Office and BankOnBuffalo were able to raise $3,000.
