    Leaving a Legacy The name Vernon Laing Wise Jr. has been synonymous with the Butler Eagle for more than six decades, but the towering voice remembered by so many was silenced on the evening of Nov. 14, when Wise died at age 95. At the time of his death, his name was being announced in Hershey, as one of 100 media magnates inducted into the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Hall of Fame at the association’s 100th anniversary gala.

    Emergency response crews are at the scene of a house fire in Cranberry Township Friday morning, Oct. 18. A Butler County 911 operator said the fire is at 154 Sequoia Lane, a residential neighborhood off Franklin Road in southern Cranberry Township. Talk from crews on scene indicates that the house is fully involved.

    Local News The Wingate by Wyndham hotel in Cranberry Township, located on Executive Drive, was completely evacuated after an HVAC unit in a second-floor room caught fire Wednesday, Oct. 16. Although the sprinkler system put the fire out and no injuries were reported, Scott Garing, Cranberry Township’s head of fire and emergency services, says that he expects the hotel to be out of service at least 24 hours due to water damage.

    Earlier this month, the Eagle ran a story on a $75,000 donation Dan and Cindy Musko made to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation. Today, we learned that Dan Musko has left this mortal coil to “Rest with Jesus,” as his self-written obituary states. While his family and friends will miss him immensely, his death is very different from most, as his legacy of generosity and community concern will live on through the scholarship.
