SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -No surprise today as NOAA released their 2025 Hurricane Outlook. They are predicting a slightly above average hurricane season With 13-19 tropical storms, 6-10 hurricanes and 3-5 major hurricanes. NOAA has put out their first 2025 Hurricane Season Outlook. They are forecasting a slightly above average season. The main reasons are above average sea surface temps and a neutral ENSO phase. Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - More than 170,000 people remain under evacuation notices following the Los Angeles, California wildfires. While dangerous fire weather conditions have passed for now, officials are warning another round of dangerous strong winds could be on the way. Chief Meteorologist Dave Turley spoke to a Professor of Geology with Georgia Southern University who explained how the Palisades Fire was able to spread so quickly.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is located in the western Caribbean Sea. The Monday 5pm advisory from the National Weather Service shows the system becoming tropical Tuesday and getting the name Helene. Landfall is forecast Thursday afternoon along the Big Bend of Florida as a category 3 hurricane. The low is then forecast to move over central/west Georgia and weaken to a tropical depression by Friday morning.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Tropical Depression 4 is currently pulling away from the north coast of Cuba. Winds are only at 35mph but is forecast to become Tropical Storm Debby before making landfall along the Florida Big Bend early Monday. TD 4 will become Debby and stall over area next week. SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - There are five changes that we will see this hurricane season. The first three changes deal with watches and warnings. Currently, the cone of uncertainty only shows watches and warnings along the immediate coast. This year, starting Aug. 15, the Hurricane Center will begin issuing an experimental version of the cone graphic where watches and warnings will also include inland areas. This is designed to help the public focus more on impacts rather than the cone itself.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The 2024 hurricane season begins Saturday, June 1. Do you know what you need to do during an evacuation? What if your power goes out and you need to use a generator? The WTOC First Alert Weather Team is helping you keep an eye on the storm as it develops. As we enter the 2024 Hurricane season, all indications are for it to be very active between June 1 and November 30. The National Hurricane Center and Colorado State University are both forecasting an above average season.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A stationary front will linger over our area into Friday. Today will see plenty of sun and warm temps. Low pressure will move out of the Gulf of Mexico and move over our area Saturday. This will bring lots of clouds and a good chance for rain and possible storms. Right now storms are not expected to be severe and we should dry out later Saturday. Sunday will be the better half of the weekend. High pressure will influence our weather Sunday and Monday.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Lots of clouds today with cool temps. Rain chances develop this evening as moisture returns from the west. Tuesday is a First Alert WX Day! A warm front will lift through the area Tuesday followed by a cold front in the afternoon. Scattered showers Tuesday morning with a line of heavy rain and storms moving through from 11am-6pm. Storms may be severe with wind gusts over 60mph and isolated tornadoes are possible.
