SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It’s a warm and windy day across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry with temperatures in the upper 70s away from the beaches, though Hilton Head is at 70°. We’ve had wind gusts of 32mph in Sylvania, 29mph in Savannah, and 31mph in Claxton. We have humidity in the teens and 20s and that plus the wind is fuel for fires. We are under a Red Flag Warning until 8pm this evening. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Banana home opener at Grayson Stadium was a chilly one with first pitch temperatures in the low 40s and dropping quickly through the game. The cold air could affect the scoreboard. When it is cold and dry out, the air is denser. Cold air has its molecules packed closer together. This makes it tougher for the ball to “push” air molecules out its way. So a solid hit, may only be a fly to deep center as opposed to being a homerun.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Warm for all and sunshine for most. Some stubborn clouds have kept a few cities cooler including Sylvania, Statesboro, Metter and Hampton near 70°. A sea breeze has cooled the beaches to the upper 60s. At 6:04pm sunset, it’ll be 72° in Savannah. It’ll be another warm day Sunday with temperatures starting around 59° with coastal fog likely and climbing to 81° and a big humid with a mix of sun and clouds. The record is 83° last reached in 1957.

You could say Guyton Elementary Art Teacher Marcie Crosby is teaching students the art of saying “Thank You.” We caught up with Ms. Crosby showing her fifth graders how to make the perfect circle for their planets and space project. SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Looks like we’re cruising towards a record high of 83° set in 1957. Many of us including Hinesville, Claxton, Savannah, and Richmond hill are in the low 80s. The beaches are cooler in the upper 60s with a bit of sea fog lingering. We are tracking a cold front that will move through tonight giving us a chance of scattered rain. We’ll remain dry but breezy through the rest of the daylight hours; we’ve had gusts of 25-30mph.
