    BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A local deputy receives one of the highest honors in law enforcement. Deputy Richard Beckum Jr. of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office received the Medal of Valor from the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association Tuesday afternoon. Deputy Beckum took down a suspect after he fired shots at another deputy in June of 2024. It was the end to a series of reports that the suspect had shot at multiple people driving around the county.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Some showers and storms have developed near the Okefenokee and are slowly moving north-northeast. Any other rain storms that develop this afternoon will be isolated and on the sub-severe side meaning wind gusts less than 58mph. We’ve got relatively comfortable temperatures for late May from 81° in Statesboro to 89° in Alma. It’ll be 81° at 8:23pm sunset and I’ll keep a 30% chance of isolated storms through 9pm.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It’s a First Alert Weather Day. We’re tracking instability build this afternoon and evening with the potential for severe storms from 3pm to midnight. There is already Severe Thunderstorm Watch for southwest Georgia and it may be extended into the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Later this evening, an MCS or organized complex of storms looks like it will hold strong aned sweep through our area with the highest threat being again damaging wind gusts.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -No surprise today as NOAA released their 2025 Hurricane Outlook. They are predicting a slightly above average hurricane season With 13-19 tropical storms, 6-10 hurricanes and 3-5 major hurricanes. NOAA has put out their first 2025 Hurricane Season Outlook. They are forecasting a slightly above average season. The main reasons are above average sea surface temps and a neutral ENSO phase. Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30.
