최근 영국 총리 리시 수낙과 가진 인터뷰에서 일론 머스크는 인공지능이 "역사상 가장 파괴적인 힘"이라고 선언하면서 "어떤 직업도 필요하지 않게 될 시점이 올 것"이라고 말했다. 지난해 AI의 대부 제프리 힌튼은 사람들에게 "배관공 일을 하라"고 조언했다. 이들이 갖고 있는 생각은 분명하다. 대부분의 사람들에게 직업의 미래는 위험에 처했다는 것이다. 최근 갤럽 여론조사에 따르면 미국 성인의 75%가 AI로 인해 일자리가 줄어들 것이라고 믿는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 이런 두려움은 잘못된 것이다. 산업화된 세계에는 일자리가 넘쳐나고 있으며, 앞으로도 계속 그럴 것이다. 코로나19 팬데믹 발생 4년 만에 미국의 실업률은 팬데믹 이전의 최저치로 떨어졌고 총고용은 팬데믹 이전 최고치보다 거의 300만 명 증가했다. 출산율 급감과 노동력 급감으로 인해 산업화된 세계 전역(중국 포함)에서 서로 비슷한 수준의 노동력 부족 현상이 펼쳐지고 있다.
