When I heard about The Lobby Tiki Bar & Grill opening in Oceanside, my first thought was, “Why did it take so long for something like this to land in North County?” Given our beach culture and ties to the South Pacific, it seemed like a natural fit. Just a brief history on the tiki bar to provide some background before you make your first visit to this new gem of a joint in coastal Oceanside.

I’ll begin this love letter to 24 Suns by stating that there are far more than 10 reasons to get there ASAP, but for the sake of word counts and such, I’ll highlight some that stood out. First, when I noticed the Oceanside location, I assumed it was somewhere coastal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a few miles inland in a strip mall on Mission Avenue.

My first experience with Angelo’s Burgers was at its Encinitas location. This was my introduction to gyros, which quickly became part of my post-surf feeding frenzy. As I’ve expressed in past columns on the regular, I am a big fan of a well-crafted sandwich, something I’m not going to be able to create myself easily. I’ve heard friends rave about Board and Brew for years but have never had one convenient to my work or personal daily life. That changed recently when I noticed the sandwich shop opened in the Trader Joe’s/Ralphs shopping center (formally known as Encinitas Village Center) in May on the northeast corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard.
