MESA, Ariz — When Robert Maldau took over as principal at the Eisenhower Center for Innovation, he knew the jobs would come with its challenges. He saw a school full of promising young students, but test scores weren’t meeting expectations. It didn’t take long for Maldau to realize that many of his Pre-K through sixth-grade students faced food insecurity; they didn’t know where their next meal would come from. The Eisenhower Center for Innovation now houses a robust food pantry.

MESA, Ariz. — Roughly one-third of all food on the grocery store shelves goes unsold. Millions of pounds of food would wind up in landfills if not for grocery store rescue programs across the country. One such program, Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, provides millions of meals for Arizona families in need. “It is about ensuring that we are feeding and helping to end hunger in our communities and eliminating waste in our company,” said Pam Gianonntti, with Fry’s Food and Drug Stores.
