NORFOLK --  A Great Blue Heron rescued earlier this week from Bush Pond when it got trapped in fishing line is in guarded condition at Tufts Animal Hospital, according to the town’s animal control officer. The bird was rescued Sunday and was taken to the animal hospital because of its injuries and is fighting to get better, Animal Control Officer Hilary Cohen said on social media Wednesday.

ATTLEBORO -- The fire department is inviting residents and families to its annual open house on Saturday at the South Attleboro fire station on West Street, near Read Street. The free event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is sponsored by Papa Gino's and Stop & Shop. It is aimed at teaching families fire safety and prevention practices during National Fire Safety Month.

NORTON -- An Attleboro man was sentenced Wednesday in Fall River Superior Court to up to five years in prison for robbing Michelle’s Corner Store at Route 123 and South Worcester Street last year. Austin Hanlin, 25, of 431 Hillside Ave., was sentenced to a 3 ½- to 5-year sentence by Judge Raffi N. Yessayan after pleading guilty to armed robbery for the Oct. 17, 2023 holdup, according to court records. Hanlin was arrested last December after police received information he was involved in the robbery.

ATTLEBORO -- A 40-year-old Attleboro man was sentenced to 2 ½ years in jail Tuesday for indecently assaulting a teenage girl and secretly videotaping her undressing while she was visiting his home. Joshua W. Gohring was sentenced in Attleboro District Court by Judge Gloriann Moroney after he pleaded guilty to three counts each of indecent assault and battery and photographing an unsuspecting person in the nude and one count of possession of child pornography, according to court records.

EASTON -- Crews early Tuesday morning rescued a wheelchair-bound person from a house fire early that left a dozen people displaced and resulted in the death of two pets. The fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. at a three-family house at 13 Columbus Ave., where heavy fire in a basement apartment was spreading quickly to the first and second floors, Fire Chief Justin Alexander said.
