YORK — York County’s Board of Supervisors passed its first real estate tax increase in nine years in a budget that reflects inflation pressures. The board approved the fiscal year 2026 budget by a vote of 4-1 at its meeting on Wednesday. While some members expressed disappointment at the tax hike, the board avoided the division seen over the budget process in the previous year.

WEST POINT — The Town of West Point is preparing for a lively summer by announcing its line-up for Food Trucks by the River and the start of the Saturday farmers market this month. The first Food Trucks by the River event is slated for May 16 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Riverwalk Park. The event will feature the West Point High School Jazz Band, Gauthier Vineyard, Sno-to-Go, Small Town Burger and The Battered Badger food truck.

WEST POINT — West Point has adopted new tax rates that will see increases in real estate, personal property, and machinery and tools taxes. The tax on machinery and tools will increase from $2.24 per $100 of assessed value to $2.37 per $100 of assessed value. The real estate tax rate will rise by 3 cents from 53 cents per $100 in value to 56 cents and the personal property tax rate will increase from $3.29 per $100 to $3.49 per $100 of assessed value — a 20-cent increase.

KING WILLIAM — A recommended increase in King William County’s real estate tax rate has met opposition from members of the Board of Supervisors amid calls to rethink a budget focused on public safety. County Administrator Stacey Davenport’s proposal for a 3.5-cent real estate tax hike was discussed by the board on April 28 during a public hearing. The county is considering Davenport’s $54.3 million budget for fiscal year 2026, which includes the new tax levy.
