J.C. Newman has been around for a long time—the company’s roots go all the way back to 1895. It has quite the portfolio of old brands. This past weekend, during the PCA trade show in New Orleans, the company revived one of those old-time brands and unveiled Sarzedas. The line is made at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Nicaragua, and the blend was created by Rich Dolak, a 29-year veteran of J.C. Newman who serves as the Tampa, Florida, company’s vice president of operations.

Cigar tobacco historically has been grown in valleys, low-lying areas surrounded by hills or mountains. A new cigar unveiled at the PCA trade show turns tradition on its head, and it comes from a company with generations of experience growing tobacco. “This is something very special,” says Nestor Andrés Plasencia, opening a box of Plasencia Alma del Cielo cigars.

E.P. Carrillo, the two-time Cigar of the Year winner that makes such brands as Pledge, Inch and Encore, is changing its company name—again. Eddie Hall is one of the strongest men in history, the first person to ever deadlift 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) and the winner of the 2017 World’s Strongest Man contest. He’s lifted Atlas stones weighing hundreds of pounds, pulled a 44,000-pound cargo plane and tossed kegs through the air as if they were baseballs. Soon, he’ll be hoisting a cigar with his name on it, as Rebellion Cigars is launching a one-size brand called Eddie Hall—Beast at the PCA trade show this weekend.

Up and at em and back in the airport for some more weekend travel. It’s time for the PCA trade show.

Glad to hear that the new tariffs were delayed. Tariffs are taxes that lead to higher costs on importers, which usually means higher prices. The cigar industry doesn’t need higher prices.
