The longtime food services director for Plymouth Public Schools is facing charges that he stole thousands of dollars' worth of food, paper goods and equipment from the district, then used and resold the items at his privately run snack shack on Cape Cod, according to the Plymouth County district attorney's office. According to investigators, Van Cott used his position to order items – including lobster meat, Angus burgers and kitchen appliances – that were never served in school cafeterias.

The newest business set to open in Weymouth Landing is far from new to the neighborhood. After being closed for nine years, a revamped and resurrected Nick's Restaurant at the same 33 Washington St. location in Weymouth is set to open any day now. New owner Paul Braun, of Braintree, has been putting merch in the windows and posting pancake pics to social media sites in recent days to spread the word like butter on toast. The decades-old restaurant was run by Spaw Inc.

Body found in woods near South Shore home. Here's the latest David R. SmithThe unidentified body was found shortly before noon near 143 Central Ave., a single family home, the DA's office said. State and local law enforcement canvassed the area they had cordoned off with police tape, and investigators spoke inside with the homeowners. The DA's office did not say how the body was discovered or by whom, nor was any information provided on the person's age or sex.
