A Roselle man who went to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission office to get a Real ID as a Democrat on April 17 and wound up leaving as an unaffiliated voter will get to cast his ballot in the Democratic primary after Superior Court Judge John Deitch signed an order allowing him to vote. This was the fourth time this week that a voter was forced to appear before a judge to avoid being disenfranchised as a result of an interaction with the MVC, also commonly referred to as the DMV.

Assembly Budget Committee Chair Eliana Pintor Marin (D-Newark) has endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) for the Democratic nomination to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy. This is Sherrill’s second endorsement of the week from a Newark legislator, which comes despite the presence of the mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, in the gubernatorial primary. Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz endorsed Sherrill on Monday.

New Jersey gubernatorial candidates from both parties are spending over $122.5 million to win the June 10 primary election, including independent expenditure groups, according to a review conducted by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. The $122.5 million includes cash-on-hand of roughly $14 million that hasn’t been spent. The candidates – six Democrats and five Republicans – have spent $54.8 million, and outside spending has hit $67.6 million.

Today is the fourth day of in-person early voting for the 2024 primary election, where Democrats and Republicans in New Jerseyans will pick nominees for Governor, State Assembly, county and municipal offices, and in the 35th district, for an unexpired term in the State Senate. Over the first two days of early voting, 27,444 Democrats and 21,580 Republicans cast in-person ballots. The state’s six-day early voting period began on Monday.
