The Irish Government will “not be found wanting” in regard to co-operating with the Omagh bomb Inquiry, Tánaiste Simon Harris has insisted. Mr Harris, who is also foreign minister, said he wanted to provide a “categoric” assurance that his government would find a legal mechanism to ensure all requested material is supplied to the UK inquiry into the 1998 attack.

Stormont’s leaders have called on the North’s energy network provider, NIE Networks, to offer goodwill payments to those who remain without power following Storm Éowyn. First Minister Michelle O’Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly highlighted that compensation payments were available in Scotland for affected customers. Some 65,000 homes and businesses remain without power in the North, with some people told they could be waiting until February 3rd to be reconnected.

The leader of the Labour Party has held talks with the Taoiseach and Tánaiste as efforts to form a new coalition government intensify. Ivana Bacik had separate meetings with Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris on Tuesday afternoon. Fianna Fáil, which won 48 seats in last month’s general election, and Fine Gael, which secured 38 seats, headed up the last coalition in Dublin and are expected to continue that partnership into the next mandate.
