Senior distance runner Jasmine Donohue headlined the App State women’s track and field team’s efforts at the Orange and Purple Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, Friday and Saturday. Donohue broke the App State women’s track and field program record for the 3,000 meter with a time of 9:32.67. Two other Mountaineers set records on the first day of the event.

The App State women’s track and field team wrapped up their second event of the season Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia. Freshman pole vaulter Lilly Nichols set a program record for indoor pole vault with a clearance of 4.26m. Nichols took home fourth place in the women’s pole vault. Sophomore sprinter Kendall Johnson finished fourth in the women’s 60 meter with a personal best time of 7.56.

App State women’s basketball took on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Saturday, securing a close win 63-60. Coming into the game the Chanticleers were 12-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Mountaineers were at .500 coming off a 68-85 loss to the Troy Trojans on Thursday. The first quarter went the way of the Mountaineers. Both teams traded threes to start the game.

Wednesday night the App State men’s basketball team defeated Coastal Carolina 74-51 in the third game of their four-game home stand. Graduate student forward CJ Huntley recorded a career-high 15 rebounds en route to his second career double-double. Huntley scored 21 points and recorded 2 assists against the Chanticleers, leading the team in scoring. Both teams traded scores for the first few minutes of the game.

Categories: November 19, 2024 The App State men’s cross country team competed at the NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Friday. The Mountaineers came into Rock Hill off of a Sun Belt Conference title, their third team event win of the season. Leading the Mountaineers was redshirt senior Calbert Guest. Guest finished with a time of 31:17.1, finishing in 44th position. Next up was junior Ethan Lipham who ran a 31:42.5 en route to a 69th place finish.

App State football looks to get their third consecutive win Thursday night when they travel to Conway, South Carolina, to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. The Mountaineers are coming off a 28-20 win over Old Dominion on Saturday, improving their conference record to 2-3 and netting them fifth spot in the Sun Belt East Division. Coastal Carolina comes into this game with a 4-4 record. The Chanticleers started 4-1 before dropping three straight to James Madison, Louisiana and Troy.

The App State men’s basketball team opened up the season with a 77-63 loss to the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks Monday night. It was the first home loss for the Mountaineers since Feb. 18, 2023, and the first home opener loss since 2013. The RedHawks struck first but the Mountaineers responded quickly, with the Mountaineers leading by four at the first media timeout. The Mountaineers took their largest lead of the game with 13:08 remaining in the first half, but the RedHawks were able to respond.

The App State men’s cross country team secured back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Championships at the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships in Foley, Alabama, on Friday. Coming into the Conference Championships, the Mountaineers had won two of their four events, winning the Covered Bridge Open, and the Firetower Project Run. They finished 19th at the Joe Piane Invitational, and 8th at the Panorama Farms Invitational, while the Mountaineer Feud was canceled due to Hurricane Helene.

The App State women’s basketball team looks to start a new chapter in the 2024-25 season with new head coach Alaura Sharp. Sharp spent six seasons at Presbyterian College as head coach of the Blue Hose. In her time there she went 76-102 with a .427 winning percentage, winning the Big South Conference Tournament and one NCAA Tournament game, winning in a play-in game against Sacred Heart.

The App State Mountaineers football team looks to get their second conference win of the season Saturday when they take on the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Mountaineers are coming off their first win since Sept. 14, as they took down the Georgia State Panthers last weekend 33-26. “Great to be back at The Rock with our students and fans this past Saturday, very proud of our football team to find a way to win,” said head coach Shawn Clark.
