Victoria Police have arrested another 22 men as part of an investigation into a series of attacks linked to the use of dating apps. This brings the total to 35 arrests in just eight months. Last year, Victoria Police alerted the community to a group of offenders posing as legitimate users on social media and dating platforms to lure men into meeting them. The alleged attackers assaulted, robbed, and threatened the victims, and subjected them to homophobic comments.

A six-month review of New South Wales hate crime laws and protections for vulnerable groups, including the LGBTQIA+ community. “Hate speech is unacceptable and has no place in NSW.” Attorney General Michael Daley said. Daley today appointed former NSW Supreme Court Justice, the Honourable John Sackar AM KC, to review criminal law hate speech protections for vulnerable communities. “The NSW Government has put in place a number of measures to strengthen social cohesion,” the Attorney General said.
