Some Surrey residents had a sudden wake-up call on Monday morning after a semi-truck and trailer clipped a BC Hydro pole and crash-landed in front of their homes. The incident happened around 3 a.m. along 88 Avenue and 146 Street. Kashif Hussein says his parent's property is among those damaged, and says it could have been much worse. Hussein believes there is a crash at that intersection every month or so.

Treacherous, icy conditions have kept North Shore Rescue busy. The team has put out a warning it hopes will save lives in the days ahead. North Shore Rescue says it responded to multiple calls for seriously injured people over the weekend, everything from head injuries, to broken bones, to internal injuries, to significant loss of skin. The team says individuals slipped and slid significant distances down steep slopes.

Vancouver drivers may want to keep a lookout for a good deal on gas Monday morning. The price at the pump seems to vary widely around Metro Vancouver, but 1130 NewsRadio has noted prices as low as $1.61 per litre to $1.70 per litre. Analysts say drivers in the region should expect the price to continue to fall.

A former provincial cabinet minister who was denied the chance to run for the Conservatives in the upcoming federal election says he's giving it another shot as an independent. Mike de Jong, former MLA for Abbotsford West, says he's simply responding to people in Abbotsford-South Langley who want his name on the ballot.

The VPD is bringing together experts and stakeholders to look for solutions to problems that have been plaguing businesses in the city.
