It's been exactly 40 days since 11 people were killed, and dozens of others were injured in the Lapu-Lapu Day festival car-ramming attack in Vancouver. To honour the victims, a special mass is being held on Thursday. In a statement, Filipino BC says the past few weeks have not felt real for the community that is still in mourning. "Today marks 40 days since the tragic events of April 26. Forty days of grieving, remembering, surviving, and supporting one another through unimaginable loss," it said.

The New Westminster School District is in the process of possibly bringing back a police presence to schools after a unanimous vote by trustees on Tuesday night. As of Wednesday, people across the Lower Mainland can go to White Pine Beach in Belcarra Regional Park again. It's back open again after being closed since the weekend because of a potentially aggressive bear at Sasamat Lake. The Metro Vancouver Regional District says the bear has moved along and is no longer an issue. But as a precaution, Metro Vancouver says that until further notice, park goers can't bring food into the park, and the concession is closed.

A new report is calling for big changes at the Metro Vancouver Regional District. Analysts from accounting firm Deloitte say the Metro Vancouver board, and its three other related boards, are too big, making it difficult to effectively get things done. The report comes after the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant's budget saw a massive blowout, which skyrocketed to close to $4 billion after an initial projected cost of around $700 million.

School District 36 is facing a $16 million budget shortfall in the upcoming year. The district will be finalizing its budget next week, and there are many things on the chopping block. From elementary band programs to educational assistant positions and learning centres for children with extra needs.
