On Tuesday 17 June emergency services staff from across the region performed a simulated explosion designed to prepare nursing students for working on serious incidents.

One woman has taken it upon herself to rescue and rear mid-Wales’ poorly seagull chicks. Every mid-May, Helen Fitzpatrick takes time off from her job and turns her attention to Herring Gull chicks. For eight weeks each spring, her phone lights up with calls from people who have found chicks fallen from nests or injured. Last year, the bird enthusiast rescued 62 chicks using 720 cans of dog food and her own time, money and backyard.

A memorial ride in tribute to a Llanon motorcyclist who lost his life is to take place this August. Memorial rides have become an annual event since then, with this year's taking place on Saturday, 16 August. The route will begin at Aberystwyth’s council offices before driving through Lampeter, Tragaron, Bont and Devil’s Bridge, before lunch at the Halfway.

The Cambrian Mountains Society was set up by citizens in 2005 to protect the “unique and vulnerable landscape” spanning the Dyfi Valley to Llandovery, now with over 300 members.
