A new art exhibition at Aberystwyth Arts Centre is “redefining” what Welsh art can be. The Multiplicity exhibition, on until 25 May, is the culmination of work from seven artists of colour from across Wales. The exhibition, led by Carmarthen artist Jasmine Violet, recruited seven artists to join an intensive programme of workshops on different art mediums before being commissioned to create new work on “being between lands and identity”.

Eager volunteers joined the Treowen litter pick (Powys County Council)Young people were a key part of Powys’ biggest and most successful ‘spring clean’. 671 volunteers including school children participated in a massive three-week clean-up across the county this March and April, collecting 622 bags of litter. The 55 clean-ups were made possible thanks to the 12 Litter Picking Hubs providing free litter picking equipment in Machynlleth and Llanidloes as well as Newtown, Welshpool and Montgomery.

This year’s date and theme have been set for the upcoming Mach Carnival. The annual event will this year be taking place on Saturday, 26 July. Organisers took an open poll for suggestions of this year’s theme, but ‘no theme’ won out, taking 60 per cent of the vote. Every year the event floods Machynlleth with bright and colourful people in costume, walking and on floats, with residents challenged each year to create even bigger and whackier costumes than the previous year.
