2025 is here and there are trends related to talent that deserve watching. Much of what happens this year will be defined by two factors – demographics, and the elevation of Donald Trump to the White House. The first cannot be reversed, at least in the foreseeable future. The impact of the second will likely last well past The Trump Administration’s second term, as policies enacted will remain in effect possibly for a decade or more.

When we walked into a small sidestreet leather store during our holiday vacation, the salesperson was upon us. Our oldest daughter had seen a leather jacket she wanted as we passed the store and she wanted to try it on. The salesperson was good. Really good. He was personable, complimentary, empathic, direct, persistent, and willing to negotiate. He knew the product, knew how to sell the product, and knew how to make recommendations about the product and other related products.

In 2022, approximately 21% of people with a disability (more than 6 million people) in the US were employed. This is up from 19% in 2021, according to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. To put it another way, this is the highest rate of workplace participation since this stastic started being tracked in 2008.
