Police and fire investigators have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries after separate blazes wrecked properties in Bilston and Wednesbury. Forensic teams were at work speaking to stunned residents on Sunday in Marbury Drive and Lunt Place in The Lunt in Bilston after a double house fire within yards of each other shortly after 2am on Saturday. The incidents are thought to be connected to the same family.

The popular 529 National Express West Midlands bus service is operating via the Keyway island, Bilston Lane in Shepwell Green and the B4464 Walsall Road at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara. The number 69 via Wednesfield is also diverted today. The operator posted on X: "@nxwestmidlands Service Update: Clarkes Lane and Gough Street service 529 is on diversion to Walsall.

West Midlands Fire Service said due to the severe damage caused at the property in Walsall Wood Road in Aldridge near Walsall it was unable to "rule out all other potential accidental causes". Emma and Jon Logan's "forever home" was wrecked by flames and smoke on April 30 while the couple were at work and their four children at school. The family believe that the toy which was under their 11-year-old daughter's bed in the loft, burst into flames after getting too warm during recent hot weather.

A driver who had drugs in his system when he struck a Black Country schoolgirl was not prosecuted due to the "evidential threshold" not being met, it has been revealed. She had been heading to a party.
