After Tripura Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury demanded the government arrange for the reinstallation of former deputy chief minister Baidyanath Majumder’s statue vandalised after the 2018 Assembly polls, Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy attributed the vandalism to an “outburst of people’s resentment” against Left Front rule. However, he offered to extend cooperation if the CPM wants to install its late leader’s statue in front of its party office.

Two days after a Lord Rama idol was installed in place of a statue of Tripura former deputy chief minister Baidyanath Majumder that was vandalised in 2018, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has demanded the government reinstall the statue in Unakoti district and relocate the idol with full dignity.

Protesters clashed with the police during an anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act demonstration in the Kailashahar area of Tripura’s Unakoti district on Saturday, leaving at least eight police personnel injured. Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Karmakar was among the injured. The police later detained eight people on charges of stone pelting.
