MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis mother said she's heartbroken and desperate to get help for her son after he allegedly tried to kill her in her home, then was accidentally shot in the leg. Officers said they responded to a shooting around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Edna Jackson told police on the scene that her 30-year-old son came home high on marijuana and ecstasy pills.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been found guilty of raping his teen relative back in 2020, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office says. On February 27, 2020, 35-year-old Ledarrius Stokes attacked and raped his 15-year-old relative at a local motel just days after the teen’s birthday. Prosecutors say that despite the absence of physical evidence and DNA, the victim gave a “powerful and credible” testimony during the trial.

The rescue came after the steamship M.E. Norman set off for a trip two miles downriver from Memphis with passengers from an engineering group who were inspecting levees. On the return trip, they ran into trouble. Tom Lee, a river worker, used a small boat to save 32 passengers after the steamship overturned in the Mississippi River.
