How the rest of the East Bay Athletic League and then North Coast Section softball season plays out remains to be seen, but there is one thing for sure. Whenever the Foothill High season ends this month, it will end the illustrious careers of seniors Kaycie and Sophia Burdick. When the two leave Foothill (Kaycie to play softball at the University of Washington and Sophia to play softball at San Jose State), there will be a massive void to fill.

The postseason has begun for the East Bay Athletic League, with the EBAL Swimming and Diving Championships taking center stage last weekend at Dougherty Valley. Swimming is a different type of competition, where you can qualify for North Coast Section events over the course of the season, allowing swimmers to pick different events to compete in during the EBAL meet than they will compete in during NCS and CIF meets.

The Amador Valley swim teams wrapped up their dual meet seasons by splitting matches with crosstown rival Foothill. The Dons took both girls’ meets, but Foothill got the two boys’ meets. The junior varsity girls saw the Dons get a 103-63 win, with the varsity girls winning 127-43. Both Amador teams finished with 4-0 marks. On the boys’ side, the Falcons won the JV meet 87.5 to 82.5. The varsity meet was a 102-68 final. Both Amador teams finished the dual meet season at 3-1.

Just last week I wrote about how deep and talented the boys’ volleyball league is this season — and then the teams went out and proved it, throwing the league into some chaos heading into Tuesday night’s final match of the regular season. De La Salle and Foothill were tied with the best record in East Bay Athletic League play at 8-2. Amador Valley and San Ramon Valley both sat at 7-3, with Dublin looming at 6-4.
