As the final weeks of his high school time wound down, Amador Valley senior Ben Stout faced a major decision. After finishing second in North Coast Section Meet of Champions in the high jump, Stout had the decision to advance on to the CIF State Track and Field Championships or to attend his high school graduation. The opening day of the state meet was Friday, May 30, the same day as the Amador Valley graduations ceremonies.

It’s a big week for the baseball and softball teams at Foothill as the Falcons have advanced to the North Coast Section Division I tournaments. In baseball the Falcons were seeded No. 3 behind Granada and De La Salle. Drawing No. 14 Liberty should have guaranteed the Falcons a first-round home game, but it didn’t. Luka Mijatovic, the super sophomore swimmer from Foothill, brought home two CIF State Swimming titles this past weekend. The Falcons finished seventh as a team. Mijatovic, who last year as a freshman was second in the 200 freestyle and won the 500 free, defended his 500 title and added the 200 free to his portfolio. “Finishing second last year gave me some motivation this year,” Mijatovic said Saturday night. “I booked it at the beginning and went out almost a second faster than usual.

In what was nothing less than a banner weekend, the East Bay Athletic League came home with five individual titles in the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships. Luka Mijatovic of Foothill and Tim Wu from Dougherty Valley each won a pair of titles on the boys’ side, while Brooke Bennett of Granada brought home a win for the EBAL girls. The league was well-represented in the finals, bringing home a load of medals.

That takes place this Thursday to Sunday at Clovis West High School. Following is the list of EBAL swimmers that won NCS titles.
