Later this month, West Contra Costa Unified School District’s board of education plans to decide whether or not to continue granting operating permissions to two Richmond charter schools attended by more than 800 students. The schools are Richmond Charter Academy, which serves about 300 middle school students, and Leadership Public Schools Richmond (LPS Richmond), home to about 550 high schoolers.

“All my wishes can be summarized in two words,” Gazan English teacher Asma Mustafa told me in a voice message on January 25, “peace and love among people here.”This was the first I’d heard from Asma since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was implemented. We had been communicating on and off through text and voice messages since last September, when she asked if I would write a report about her teaching, which continued throughout the Israel-Hamas war, despite her daily struggle to survive.

Just looked at some research (cited below) and apparently a three mile 15 minute Waymo trip costs about 20.50 in San Francisco? So you do that twice and it’s over forty bucks to go shopping? That’s only sustainable for rich people… https://t.co/KmB6EyLx6C

By welcoming Waymo to Market Street, we’re adding another safe and sustainable way to access shopping, theaters, hotels, and restaurants. This is about revitalizing downtown and making it easier for everyone, locals and visitors alike, to enjoy everything our city has to offer, https://t.co/d3WdbefrdH

Oakland's school board has also scrutinized Amethod, the nonprofit that runs this school and others in Richmond and Oakland. Last January it denied renewing one of Amethod's schools after its board president said it created an environment that's “ripe for fraudulent activities.”

As Richmond Charter Academy is attempting the renew its permission to operate, the West Contra Costa school district is scrutinizing its governance and finances. My latest for Richmondside... https://t.co/wDSMEAV2nt

What are some good books to read in 3-4 minute increments? Any tips? I'm going to be watching a bunch of NBA playoffs soonish and want something to read while the commercials are on.
