Belanger, who serves as the MP for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River in Northern Saskatchewan, was appointed to the role by Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday. “The prime minister wants to make sure that he doesn’t have a large cabinet and being construed as bloated and big,” Belanger remarked.

By accomplishment May 13, 2025 | 1:18 PM La Ronge’s Brett Angus will receive the Order of Gabriel Dumont Bronze Medal. Angus is currently the president of the Jim Brady Métis Local 19, and the chief of the Northern Saskatchewan Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NSITEP) Student Council, where he is just finished his second year as a student. “It’s pretty cool. It’s a great honour my faculty nominated me for the medal,” Angus remarked.

In the last four years, Burnouf has been part of the Provincial Métis Council which meets once per month, as well as works with the Regional Métis Council, which meets four times per year and provides her with direction. The regional council includes to presidents of Métis Locals in Candle Lake, La Ronge, Stony Rapids, Uranium City, and Weyakwin/Timber Bay.
