A mother of two doesn’t think enough is being done to curb a pest problem at her children’s elementary school in Amherst, N.S.“My kids are coming home from school telling me they’re seeing mice poop on the floor in the bathroom and in their classrooms every day,” said Gillian Smooke. “It’s not healthy or safe.” Smooke said one of her kids is even hearing mice moving around in the ceiling of Spring Street Academy.

Only two Maritime teams remain in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoffs with the second round set to begin Friday night. For one team, it’s a major shocker. For the other, it’s no surprise at all. It’s not quite clear how many drug overdoses took place in Moncton, N.B., this weekend, but the executive director of the province’s only overdose prevention site is alarmed. Scott Phipps with Ensemble Greater Moncton said his team heard everything from five to more than 28 overdoses on Saturday. “There was a death confirmed,” said Phipps, who couldn’t confirm the age or sex of the victim. It’s also not known where they all took place. “We’ve heard mixed reports,” said Phipps.
