BRADLEY -- Bradley residents voted with an overwhelming majority to close the Villa Rand Elementary School. According to Town Clerk April Dorr, a plan is already in place for students after the school's closure. She says pre-k students will attend Alton, and K-5 students will attend Old Town Elementary. Just over 96 percent of the votes cast favored closing the school.

AUGUSTA -- Advocates offered passionate testimony supporting a bill they say would ensure the safety and well-being of one of Maine's most vulnerable populations. If passed, LD 1866 would codify the state-designated agency advocating for individuals with serious mental illnesses by requiring Maine's health and human services department to contract an independent advocacy group for those individuals.

OLD TOWN -- Two-unit apartment in Old Town may be a total loss after a suspected propane explosion. According to Old Town's fire chief, a report of an explosion at 51 Main Street came in just before 1 p.m. Monday. When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy fire showing out of the back of the building, but were able to knock it down quickly. "With an explosion, it's tough to tell, but it does look like it pushed out some of the windows and walls.

STATEWIDE -- Maine Veterans' Homes announced today that they will receive retroactive reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans' home care, thanks to Maine's congressional delegation. Maine Veterans' Homes says the funding addresses a long-standing gap for housing, meals, and personal care for veterans who do not require nursing-level support.
