Nearly 60 people were unable to get through to 911 during a Telus network outage in March. In a new report to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) from Telus on June 16, the company said an outage started just after 10 p.m. on March 22 and lasted until March 24 after 1 p.m.Telus said the outage involved facilities that connect Telus to Bell’s 911 network, which directs calls to Brandon’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).

Days after residents were told they were allowed to return, people living in Lynn Lake are being told to prepare for potentially another evacuation. In a post Tuesday evening, the Town of Lynn Lake said an evacuation alert is still in place. “Please continue to be prepared to leave on short notice, as a mandatory evacuation may be called at any time, depending on fire behavior and changing weather and wind conditions,” the post reads.

Tree carvings in the Bois-des-Esprits Park have gone too far, according to one city councillor. Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) filed a motion at the Riel Community Committee asking that the public service look into the practice of tree carvings. He said some residents in the area have complained that carvings are being done on live trees. “It started well and it was carved into these old, dead trees. And then, it’s the views of some people in the ward, gone too far,” said Mayes.
