On a cold February morning, as a snowstorm blanketed Milwaukee, gunshots rang out near 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. A man was reported walking and firing shots, and when police arrived at the scene, they ordered him to drop the weapon. Instead, the suspect fired at officers. In the chaos that followed, Officer Daniel Gonzales confronted the gunman, but he was shot in the chest and leg, falling to the ground as his life hung in the balance.
