TOWN OF WATSON, New York (WWNY) - The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash where the driver allegedly fled into the woods. Deputies were called to Evies Pond Road in the town of Watson late Monday night. They found a pickup truck that appeared to have been burned. Investigators said the vehicle had crashed into a tree. Officials said they found a passenger, 37-year-old Alyse Cooney of Old Forge, hiding in the woods.

CARTHAGE, New York (WWNY) - A battery explosion is blamed for a fire that destroyed a garage and damaged other property in the village of Carthage. Volunteers from several fire departments were called to the Chapman home at 522 South Mechanic Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found a two-story garage engulfed in flames. Carthage Fire Chief Brian Draper said there was little firefighters could do to save the building and focused on saving nearby property.

According to the Cherundolo Law Firm, a state Supreme Court jury in Jefferson County awarded Roger Altman and his wife $5.6 million, more money than they originally requested. The lawsuit stemmed from an emergency room visit to the Watertown hospital on June 6, 2018.
