Superman has been around for so long and rebooted so many times it's arguable that there's no one "true" Superman. The main Superman is whichever one currently appears in DC Comics. The original Superman that was created in 1938 became the Earth-2 Superman when the Silver Age Superman was rebooted with a new origin. Every reboot created a new version of Superman.
