Pitt women’s swim and dive team traveled to Athens, Georgia, this weekend to compete in the NCAA women’s swim and dive championships. Four Panthers were present at the championships, with successful finishes to wrap up the season. Almost 20 years ago today, Carrie Bradshaw uttered the iconic words, “Men I may not know, but shoes, shoes I know.” I can relate to this quote as I love fashion, almost concerningly so. Although I spend an excruciating amount of time picking out my day’s outfit and admit to having a chronic shopping obsession, this was a new and very expensive hobby that formed years ago. Hello Compilers, I got my first job when I was 14 working as a barista at a small cafe called Bloom Cafe in my hometown. I loved it. Every weekend I would clock in at 7:30 a.m. and arrange trays of sweet pastries, grind beans and restock the syrups and sauces. I learned how to work an espresso machine and froth milk to the perfect consistency. I would boil lavender in simple syrup for our signature lavender vanilla latte, all while nibbling on a croissant from the kitchen.

The obsessed artist trope is one of my all-time favorites, especially in film. Seeing a character delve into the darkest parts of their psyche is shockingly cathartic for an anxious perfectionist such as myself. However, tragedy stamps most of these films with a familiarity that often dulls the ending into a predictable lesson that unwavering devotion to one’s craft is futile. Alternatively, “Whiplash” is a morally ambiguous commentary on the stress and suffering required for success.

Allow me to take you back to where it all began for the denim brand that can never be forgotten — Levi’s. To truly embrace the cowboy aesthetic this spring and summer, you must incorporate denim — whether it is a favorite of yours or not. The denim craze dates back to 1930, when dressing became more of a personal decision than a societal expectation. Levi’s decided to sponsor rodeos for the sake of increased awareness.
