Ogema, Saskatchewan’s Arleene Noga was a player, coach, mentor and ambassador of the game of baseball for most of her life and now, a Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer. Her daughter, Carol Lee Scott said getting the call from the Hall was “a surprise.”“A good majority of [my mom’s] life was involved with baseball,” she told CTV News. “She was almost embarrassed by it. With the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) trade deadline two days away, all five of the league’s Saskatchewan based teams were busy on Tuesday. Starting late Monday and into Tuesday afternoon, a total of seven trades involving the Saskatoon Blades, Regina Pats, Moose Jaw Warriors, Swift Current Broncos or Prince Albert Raiders were made. More than a dozen players and another dozen draft picks were swapped. The WHL trade deadline is Jan.

The Green and White finalized some Christmas shopping ahead of the holidays, acquiring quarterback Jake Maier in a trade with Calgary on Monday.
Maier, 27, spent the last four seasons with the Stampeders, playing in 65 games and making 45 starts over that time.
He’s completed 1,022 passes for 11,685 yards and 60 touchdowns while adding 60 carries for 232 yards and five touchdowns.

There are currently 824 people in Regina who are experiencing homelessness, according to the 2024 point-in-time (PiT) homelessness count. The count, conducted by Namerind Housing Corporation, says that is an overall increase of 255 per cent, going from 232 in 2015 to the current 824. It is also up from 488 in September of 2021, according to the report. "That’s not an estimate. That is, 'at least,'" said Namerind President and CEO Robert Byers.

Regina City Council forgave the Saskatchewan Roughriders of more than $1 million in unpaid rent payments at their meeting Wednesday. In total, the team owed the city $3.5 million as part of a contract to occupy Mosaic Stadium. “Through COVID, the CFL was completely shut down,” City Manager Niki Anderson told councillors. “That wasn’t a choice.” Anderson said negotiations to find a deal that works for both sides had been ongoing since April.

Michael Gordon Jackson, the Saskatchewan father who withheld his then seven-year-old daughter from her mom for nearly 100 days to prevent the girl from getting a COVID-19 vaccine, was handed a 12-month prison sentence and 200 days probation on Friday.
Jackson was credited for time served, which was 541 days while on remand, meaning he will not spend another day behind bars for the case.

The Western Hockey League's (WHL) Moose Jaw Warriors traded captain Brayden Yager to the Lethbridge Hurricanes Monday.
The deal sees three players and six picks, including two first-rounders, returned to the Warriors.
“This trade brings us two players with experience and good leadership qualities,” Warriors’ General Manager Jason Ripplinger said in a media release.
Yager was named to Hockey Canada’s U20 World Junior Championship training camp roster Monday before the trade.

Ruben Manz, a Regina-based chiropractor accused of sexually assaulting seven women from 2010 through 2021, denied ever touching any of the alleged victims in a sexual nature while under oath.
The Crown wrapped up its case on Wednesday and proceedings continued Thursday when Manz first took the stand as a witness. Friday was the first full day of questioning for the defence case.
The victim’s names are protected by a publication ban.
