Saskatchewan’s education minister says once the April 28 federal election is done is when the province plans to begin negotiations with Ottawa regarding an extension of the $10 per day childcare program. Everett Hindley says other provinces that signed extensions to the federal program almost immediately in February are now coming back to the table to ask questions.

Golf season is getting underway, and the City of Regina says three of its four courses will soon be open. In a news release the city said that the driving ranges at Tor Hill and Murray will open on April 18 with the courses opening on April 25. The Lakeview Par 3 course will open on May 2, the city added. However, the opening of Joanne Goulet Golf Course will be delayed due to spring related flooding, the city said.

Regina police say a 48-year-old man with a history of sexual offences and considered to be a high risk of reoffending is currently at large. Jason Paul Thorn has a history of reoffending and poses a high risk for sexual offences against female children, according to Regina police. He had been living in the city’s Heritage neighbourhood in a residence that provided supervision and monitoring of his activities.

A rally was held by childcare advocates and parents in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative building Tuesday, as calls for the province to sign an extension with the federal government for $10 per day daycare continue. Those at the rally expressed their disappointment with the province and feel many families will be put in a tough spot if an extension of the program known as the Canada-wide Early Child Care system continues to go unsigned.
