The new-look Region 4-6A shapes up to be very competitive in 2023 as six of the seven schools advanced to the TSSAA playoffs last season. Green Hill, Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central all made the Class 5A playoffs in 2022 from Region 5-5A while both Lebanon and Cookeville advanced to the TSSAA postseason from Region 3-6A and Gallatin reached the playoffs from Region 5-6A. The only team that didn’t reach the postseason in the new region was Warren County.

After 12 seasons and leading McEwen to five playoff appearances Eric Pullen has resigned as McEwen head football coach. The McEwen administration wasted little time as they named 1981 McEwen graduate Rick Rice as the new head football coach. Pullen finished with a 54-69 overall record and led the Warriors to five Class 1A playoff appearances (2012, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022). McEwen are coming off a 6-5 record losing to Moore County in the first-round last season.
