    Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport broke ground Thursday on a new state-of-the-art air cargo facility it's building on the former 440th Airlift Wing campus in partnership with Crow Holdings. The former 440th campus – now the MKE Regional Business Park – was given in 2008 to the airport, which utilizes some of the buildings and has leased others to short-term tenants. The 440th was transferred to Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina in 2007 and ultimately deactivated nine years later.

    Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport has added a new flight planning tool to its website, mitchellairport.com. The new “Where We Fly” module lets users navigate on a 3D map the more than 30 destinations served by nonstop flights from Milwaukee. There is also a list view of destinations. Users can compare flight times, airlines and fares and book flights in one place, using filters for things like flight duration, personal interests and specific airlines.

    Mitchell International Airport reported Monday that it saw a 5 percent increase in passenger traffic in 2024 compared to the previous year. More than 6.3 million passengers used MKE last year compared to just over 6 million in 2023. That itself was a big jump up from 2022's just under 5.5 million. The pandemic tanked travel numbers everywhere in 2020-21 and at Mitchell that meant just 2.6 million travelers in 2020, rising to 4.5 million the following year.

    The owners of the Franksville Craft Beer Garden have signed a letter of intent to open a taproom at the Belle City Square development in the old Horlick Malted Milk plant in Racine. The plan is for Hop Heads Hospitality & Events – owned by Ken and Molly Michel – to open a nearly 18,000-square-foot taproom, beer garden and 300-person events venue in the complex's 1911 Factory 3 building.
