It's time to roll film! The 2025 Milwaukee Film Festival is set to return this week, running from Thursday, April 24th until May 8th, with over 200 films from around the world hitting screens at the Oriental Theatre and the Downer Theatre. Now in its 17th year, the festival does an amazing job of curating a mixture of works from national, international and Milwaukee filmmakers, and this year features films across 13 categories, both short and feature-length.

This week, Chef Vanessa Rose made a significant, but unexpected, turn in her efforts to establish a queer-led third space. X She’d had her sights set on the former Company Brewing space in Riverwest. But a twist of fate led to a signed lease on both the ground floor and second floor of the Historic William C. Kneisler Building, the White House, at 2900 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. The lease will also give Rose access to both the 16-car parking lot and patio gardens adjacent to the building.

It was 1993 when Founder and Co-owner Eric Resch established the very first Stone Creek Coffee cafe in Whitefish Bay in December of 1993. It was the same year that the founders of Alterra (now Colectivo) began roasting and selling coffee at a kiosk in Bayshore Mall. The cafe would serve the Whitefish Bay community for 27 years before closing in spring of 2021 and then (happily) reopening as a bigger, better Stone Creek Coffee + Kitchen just two years later in 2023.
