By now, I’m used to mustachioed motorcycles, but the M’s stache was less handlebar and more horseshoe. It looked less like a superbike and more like a caricature of one. I’m glad to say I had a less visceral reaction to the aero on BMW’s recently revealed Concept RR. A sign of things to come? The German marque pulled the covers off its latest superbike prototype at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, a classic car show held along Northern Italy’s Lake Como.

When the NT1100 broke cover in 2021, it signalled a new sport-touring era for Honda. North American riders were clamoring for a VFR replacement. Tightening emissions regulations killed the VFR1200F in 2017, leaving American Honda without a proper sport-tourer for four long years. That’s why it was so deflating when the NT1100 launched as a European exclusive in 2022. Success was swift, too. The model became the continent’s highest-selling sport-tourer in 2023.

Harley-Davidson introduced the Fat Boy to its cruiser lineup in 1990. Riding on the Softail platform that debuted just six years earlier, the Big Twin cruiser stood out with its beefy Hydra-Glide fork and solid-cast disc wheels. What made the maiden model even more distinctive was its Fine Silver Metallic paint, which Harley applied not just to the tank and fenders, but also to the frame. And so, the Gray Ghost was born.

I’m probably the least mechanically inclined motorcyclist I know (my editor, Lance, may argue otherwise). It wasn’t always that way, though. As a beginner rider, no project seemed too ambitious. I wanted to change my own oil, swap out my exhaust, and mount my own tires. With each project growing more and more complex, I soon discovered that turning a wrench wasn’t my life’s calling. I seldom solved problems. I often caused them. If I wasn’t stripping threads, I was mincing bolt heads.
