"Get away from the Capitol! No trucks allowed!" "What? I'm sorry!" I yelled in return while frantically cranking the window down in the cab of my rented U-Haul truck. The megaphone on the Secret Service SUV blared more instructions at me as the police officer in front of my truck cleared traffic so I could get away from the nation's capitol building and back to a road I was apparently allowed on. My two friends in the cab with me started to voice concerns about my navigational skills.

BMW manufactures singles, parallel twins, and inline fours, but when riders think of the Bavarian bikemaker, it’s the boxer engine that most often comes to mind. Like the V-twin to Harley-Davidson or the L-twin to Ducati, BMW derives much of its identity from the opposed twin. That’s true as ever, with the Munich marque recently announcing details for its latest boxer-bound offerings: the R 12 G/S and R 1300 R. A real G/S?

Some partnerships just make sense. Ducati’s relationship with Lamborghini is one of them. Both hail from Italy’s Motor Valley. Both manufacture high-performance luxury vehicles. Nostalgia casts one hell of a spell. It recalls only the best of memories. It makes you long for what was, not for what is. That’s the hex I was under when it came to the Streetfighter V2. The previous incarnation of Ducati’s naked bike holds a special place in my heart. It’s easy to see why. The 955 cc Superquadro V-twin made enough horsepower to tickle your adrenals but not enough to drain them.

Take a sport bike (preferably a high-powered one), strip away its fairings, swap its clip-ons for a handlebar, and what you have is a streetfighter motorcycle. It’s all sport bike performance with no sport bike discomfort. That was also Ducati’s goal for the 2025 Streetfighter V4. The aptly named super naked is only a half step removed from its superbike cousin, the Panigale V4. It rides like a Ducati sport bike, with acceleration so blistering it should be spelled c-r-i-m-i-n-a-l.
