MEMPHIS – With Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving running the show, the Dallas Mavericks were mainly a spectacular guard-oriented show that had fans on pins and needles because of the extraordinary things they could do on the basketball court. But with Dončić now playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and Irving out for the season following surgery to repair his torn left anterior cruciate ligament, the Mavs have turned to a potent front line headed by Anthony Davis to punish opponents.

SACRAMENTO — Dallas Maverick point guard Brandon Williams had this simple way of letting coach Jason Kidd know he was going to be able to play in Wednesday’s play-in tournament against the Sacramento Kings. “He text me (Wednesday) and said there was no way that he was going to miss this game,” Kidd said. “It was good to get that text (Wednesday) afternoon after shootaround.”It was good, because for the Mavs, Williams was one of the best players on the court.

SACRAMENTO – The last time Klay Thompson played a play-in game in Golden 1 Center, he was a member of the Golden State Warriors. That was a year ago to the date. SACRAMENTO – It’ll be next season at the earliest before the Sacramento Kings will get a chance to light the beam again. That’s because the Dallas Mavericks came to Golden 1 Center and dominated the Kings in a Western Conference play-in tournament game, 120-106, on Wednesday night. The win enabled the Mavs to advance to play on the road at the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in a play-in game to determine which team will secure the conference’s No. 8 seed.

SACRAMENTO – Except for point guard Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks are anticipating having all of their regular rotation players available when they face the Sacramento Kings in a Western Conference play-in game on Wednesday at 9 p.m.And that’s saying a mouth full, because this will be the first time in four games against the Kings this season that the Mavs will have their regular rotation players – Irving notwithstanding.
