For the past four months, I've been starting my weekend with what many might consider a rather unnerving ritual. Every Saturday morning, I make coffee, sit down at my computer from my home in Sydney, and log on to a scheduled Zoom call for a half hour conversation with a convicted killer at Goulburn prison. Garry Davis is 38, but has already spent almost a decade behind bars for a heinous crime.

阅读中文版A series of attacks on Australian political parties on emerging Chinese social media platform RedNote (RED), has raised concerns about misinformation, disinformation and the risk of foreign interference ahead of the federal election. Among the most notable is an AI-generated deepfake video of Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, falsely depicting him speaking Mandarin, and a misleadingly edited video suggesting he intends to deport Chinese Australians.

An ABC investigation has revealed that police may have failed to identify another victim of convicted healthcare killer Garry Davis, who was found guilty of murdering two nursing home residents and attempting to kill a third by injecting them with lethal doses of insulin. Elizabeth Eifler, 86, died within the same 48-hour period in which three other residents were injected with deadly doses of insulin by Davis, an aged care worker, at SummitCare Wallsend in Newcastle in October 2013.

A retired detective has told the ABC police feared a healthcare murderer could have been a serial killer after they searched his bedroom and found stolen medical items and a collection of death notices. Garry Davis murdered two people and attempted to murder a third by injecting them with lethal doses of insulin at Summitcare Wallsend aged care facility in Newcastle in 2013. During the investigation, police carried out a search of the home where the then 26-year-old lived with his grandparents.
