Holiday weekend travels will be a little more difficult in the North Hills and Moon as a result of road work. Here are the details. McKnight Road – Traffic will shift again Friday on McKnight Road as Lindy Paving works to finish a $27 million project that stretches from Pittsburgh’s North Side to Perrymont Road in McCandless this summer. Preparatory work will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with traffic being shifted to the outside lanes while crews install barriers and paint lines for the crossover.

Traffic patterns will change in two areas of Pittsburgh beginning Thursday. In Point Breeze, the city will activate a new traffic light at the corner of Forbes and South Braddock avenues in Point Breeze that will bring changes in traffic flow with it. The traffic signal was installed last fall, but it will be activated on Thursday. The changes that will come with the new light include reconfiguring the lanes on Forbes approaching the intersection.
Panther Hollow Bridge needs repairs to 'critical' support plates, work could take 'less than a year'

It’s taken nearly six months, but Pittsburgh officials and consultants have determined that the Panther Hollow Bridge in Schenley Park likely will be closed through the summer and perhaps as long as another year for repairs. The bridge was abruptly closed Oct. 19 out of “an abundance of caution” when inspectors for the city discovered problems with steel trusses that support the structure.

A traffic calming project will begin Wednesday on Beltzhoover Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood, where traffic monitors have clocked vehicles at 63 miles an hour on the two-lane neighborhood street. Crews are expected to work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday to install a series of speed tables between Kathleen Street and East Warrington Avenue. Speed tables are raised, flat sections of the street designed to encourage drivers to slow down driving through an area.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit and Dormont are teaming up to try their hands at land development. The transit agency and borough announced Tuesday they want developers to submit qualifications and their concepts for how to use 2.5 acres adjacent to Dormont Junction, a stop for nearly 100,000 bus and light rail passengers every year.
