    The future of UNC Asheville’s Millennial Campus, otherwise known as the Urban Forest, is still up in the air.     Asheville residents will see higher water rates starting July 1. Residents will see a $4 increase twice a month or a rate of 7.5%. Commercial and manufacturing companies will see a rise of close to 20%. The city's water treatment plant was heavily damaged after Hurricane Helene, but this change is not because of the storm.

    With last Friday’s news of FEMA denying an extension of a 100% disaster cost-share waiver, 10% of that now falls to the state. What does that mean for local governments still waiting for federal dollars? “We haven’t seen a dime of that [FEMA public assistance] come in until this morning,” Madison County Manager Rod Honeycutt said. “Individual assistance from FEMA, we’ve had about $5.1 million come in across 4,700 citizens.”Madison County still has a lot to get done nearly seven months after Helene.

    Generous donations are giving a multitude of families a home after not having one for months in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. A local nonprofit organized the donations and is just weeks away from helping its first family. FairviewStrong.org was launched to help the people in the area affected by Helene. Now, double-wide trailers will be delivered to help families who lost their homes over six months ago.
