The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward. Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush. Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you.

If Oklahoma’s season is to extend past this weekend’s Chapel Hill Regional, they’re going to have to do it the hard way. And man it was all there for the taking. Skip Johnson’s gamble paid off in the opener. Oklahoma had its guy on the mound for Saturday night’s winner bracket match up with host North Carolina. Then it was over. Before it even started, really. The Diamond Heels turned a first inning error into six unearned runs, en route to an 11-5 victory at Boshamer Stadium.

For the fourth consecutive year, Oklahoma baseball is headed back to the NCAA Tournament, selected as the No. 2 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. It’s the program’s 42nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels, winners of the ACC Tournament, are the No. 5 overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament. The Sooners finished the regular season 35-20 overall, 14-16 in the SEC, winning half of their 10 SEC series in the first season in the conference.

Oklahoma’s run at the SEC Tournament came to an end in an offensive-less, error-filled 6-1 loss to Vanderbilt at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. And while Oklahoma leaves Hoover with more wins (2) than losses (1), Thursday night’s quarterfinal setback was frustratingly a reminder of what has plagued this team of late. And what will likely spell its season when its all said and done. It’s hard to figure. Oklahoma led the SEC in double-plays this season.

It almost seemed improbable for Oklahoma baseball. Less than 24 hours after Texas came from behind to take the opener, clinching a regular season SEC title, Oklahoma found itself in yet another uncomfortable position. Perhaps that’s what makes college baseball such a beautiful sport. Anything can happen. Add in a little Red River Rivalry to the equation and you get what happened on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd at L. Dale Mitchell Ballpark.

The most underrated part of Scottie's game isn't his ability to strike a golf ball the best in the world. It's the fact he somehow pulls off Nike golf apparel and makes it look decent.
