Oklahoma first baseman Dayton Tockey is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after sustaining a hairline fracture in his left ankle during Thursday night’s 8-6 series opening win over Georgia. A tough blow for the Sooners on the heels of a career night for Tockey in the series opener. Maybe the short turnaround wasn’t a bad thing after all for Oklahoma baseball, who had just a lone travel day between its midweek Bedlam beatdown in Stillwater and Thursday night’s series opener against at Missouri. Picking up right where they left off two nights prior, the Sooners collected 15 hits and walked nine times Thursday, exploding for five runs in the six and six in the eighth en route to a 17-4 run-rule victory over Missouri (8 innings).

Oklahoma pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was great. Kade Anderson was better. The Louisiana State lefty was masterful in the opener on Thursday night, striking out a career-high 14 in a complete game 2-0 shutout of Oklahoma. It’s the first complete game shutout for the Tigers since some guy named Paul Skenes did so two years ago. Not too shabby. For Oklahoma, it was a frustrating night offensively. Anderson worked up and down the Sooners lineup, tossing a career-high 135 pitches.
