One of the European Union's two executive bodies, the European Commission (EC), continues to wage economic war against United States companies. The EC espouses views on economic regulation at odds with common sense and with the fundamental purposes of antitrust law. Those purposes are economic efficiency and consumer welfare. The purpose of economic regulation is not to subsidize businesses that are less efficient and significantly less innovative.

Whatever else Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) campaign for a 28th Amendment gets wrong about guns, at least it implicitly admits that the Democratic Party’s gun control wish list is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. After all, why propose an amendment if the Constitution doesn't forbid what you want to accomplish? Leaving Newsom’s admission aside, however, his 28th Amendment would accomplish nothing, at least nothing good.

Maine is back in court over its tuition assistance program for rural families as a Catholic school and parents are suing over the state's exclusion of faith-based schools. St. Dominic Academy, a high school in the Diocese of Portland, and parents Keith and Valori Radonis are suing Maine for barring them from using funds from the assistance program for expressing religious belief.

Other media outlets covered the same story with similar headlines about the Food and Drug Administration’s move. While the China angle and the cancer angle were the most attention-grabbing elements, the bigger story is the long-standing, and increasingly frequent, problem of prescription drug shortages.
