Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday signed a bill that will inject $8.5 billion of new funding into public schools - one of the largest such cash boosts in state history. The Texas Senate unanimously approved $8.5 billion in new investments for public schools late Thursday evening, signaling the breakthrough end of months of negotiation with the state House. Earlier in the evening, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who leads the Senate, and House Speaker Dustin Burrows announced the two chambers had agreed on the policy.
