    Editor’s Note: This is a guest commentary. The opinions do not necessarily reflect the views of the editorial board. When I first saw that Ithaca College had a sports media program, I was beyond excited. My high school self had no idea what I wanted to do in college up to that point, but when I saw that, my eyes lit up. The idea of covering sports as a career had never really occurred to me until that moment. Four years later, I am left with a torn mind about whether or not I made the right choice.

    In a statement released April 18, Ithaca College announced three commencement speakers and one honorary degree recipient. Larry Hirschhorn ’80 will be the main speaker at the 2023 commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. May 21 in the Glazer Arena in the Athletics and Events Center. Hirschhorn has won four Tony Awards as a Broadway producer. After graduating from the college, he earned a master’s degree in educational theatre from New York University.

    Ithaca College awarded 10 seniors with the 2022–23 Campus Life Award for their continuous service to the campus community. At the end of each academic year, the college honors a group of graduating seniors who have made significant contributions through their involvement in the campus community. Bonnie Prunty, vice president of Student Affairs and Campus Life, made the announcement to the campus community April 6 on Intercom.

    Under threats of heavy wind and thunderstorms, the Ithaca College men’s and women’s rowing teams started their spring seasons at the annual Cayuga Duels on April 1, marking their return to competition. Both squads were in action as they welcomed in Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Williams College, Cornell University and Washington College to compete on the Cayuga Inlet in a series of dual races.
