(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell the most in more than five weeks as Israel and Iran appeared to be honoring a ceasefire agreement, dimming demand for the metal as a haven asset. Bullion declined as much as 2.2% to below $3,296 an ounce on Tuesday, the biggest intraday loss since May 16. The truce between Israel and Iran was unexpectedly announced overnight by US President Donald Trump, but within hours, both sides breached the tentative agreement.

Copper in London edged higher on stronger economic data out of top importer China and a continued slide in European inventories as traders weigh market impacts of conflict in the Middle East. The industrial metal rose 0.6% Monday on the London Metal Exchange to settle at $9,703, reversing Friday’s losses. Copper futures are up nearly 11% since the start of the year. The LME’s European warehouses have seen copper volumes fall for 26 days straight, the longest run of declines since 2020.

Cyclic Materials, a startup backed by Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp., announced plans to build a rare-earths recycling plant and research center in Canada. The company is investing $25 million to develop the facility in Kingston, Ontario, Cyclic said Wednesday in a statement. Cyclic’s technology recovers rare earths from disused products including wind turbines and data-center hard drives. The company already has a demonstration facility in Kingston.
