My initial interest in subjective well-being stemmed from learning about how meditation, access to green space, and gratitude improve perceptions and feelings about quality of life measured at the level of an individual. But it was not until I read Diener and colleagues’ paper describing the state and significance of subjective well-being research for policymaking that I understood the need to extend this research to the population level.
